What Itachi did was wrong.. Why everyone.. There is not way that everyone needed to die.. women, elderly, children, does not makes sense. War is always old bitter hags telling young to kill each other. There can be 100 more episodes that try to justify Itachi's doing but it can't be justified..

But he did it, to prevent further problems. And the Uchiha back then were decided to launch the coup nonetheless. Itachi just prevented a major problem, at the cost of his name.

it's not what itachi did it's what the leaf's under order did. itachi was just the means to do so and by doing so he saved his brother and was easier and convenient for all. without the massacre there would been a war.

nope there would be much more destruction than this. 90% of the leaf would have been eradicated. they mention it somewhere in the manga... and it was unclear how many of them awakened the perfect mangekyo like fugaku. One mangekyo is enough to reign chaos without even using the perfect susano.

Almost all the Uchiha higher-ups were Mangekyo users. So, they had really big advantage over the Leaf.

Kinda feels like if both parties just
sat down from the start and told each other that they know of their plans then the whole matter could have been resolved. This doesn't sound like a good justification to me, or maybe I just don't get it.

Sakumo had more problems than Itachi.

Itachi killed his clan and joined Akatsuki on orders. Sakumo botched the whole ops, to save a man.

Itachi put aside his emotions and followed orders. Also he saved his brother. I'm assuming if a war broke out the clan would have been wiped anyways.
